PRODUCT FEATURES:

The WANE-208 is one of the first hardened Ethernet switches on the market today designed for use in IP CCTV and surveillance applications that retails at consumer switch prices. Features such as rugged metal construction, wide temperature range, dual power supply inputs, shock and vibration approvals and DIN-rail or panel mount capability differentiate this product, making it much more suitable for mission-critical security applications than typical 'off-the-shelf' networking products.


The WANE-208 has 8 x 10/100Mbps auto-negotiating ports with Power over Ethernet (PoE) capability. This means that up to 8 x IP cameras (or other PoE devices) can be powered from the switch over the same Cat 5 cable used for the data connection. This can substantially reduce installation costs by removing the requirement to provide a separate power connection to every camera.

The gigabit ports on the switch can be used to provide a high bandwidth uplink to a core switch or server or to provide a connection to another WANE-208. Several switches can be cascaded together to provide connections to many IP cameras on a high-bandwidth backbone. For distributed applications, the gigabit ports can be occupied with SFP (Small Form-factor Pluggable) transceivers providing fibre-optic Ethernet connections up to 80km depending on the choice of SFP. Using fibre-optic connections also provides electrical noise immunity allowing you to install cables in existing trays / ducts without fear of interference or cross-talk effects.

The ANE-208P has been tested with a number of leading brands of IP camera to ensure compatibility. A day of testing at the Axis UK headquarters returned 100% positive results and a welcome endorsement from Axis MD, Steve Gorski: "We are seeing demand for PoE increase in Axis camera installs where budgets are tight or no cabled electricity supply is in close proximity to camera locations. Solutions such as Amplicon's which are designed for professional security usage will find a ready market as they offer an opportunity for users to improve and centralise electricity supply management through linkage to Uninterruptible Power Supplies, whilst delivering a clear and early return on investment."
